Partner tools can now show guests the right rewards before checkout
If a partner or custom-built experience shows guests their available rewards, it can now show only the ones that actually apply to what's in the cart.
What is it?
We've added a new capability to the Thanx Loyalty API. A partner can now ask Thanx which rewards and point redemptions would apply to a specific cart, and get an exact answer back without redeeming anything. That means a rewards list shown before checkout can be accurate rather than approximate.
Why it matters
Guests stop being shown rewards they can't use. This means guests no longer see offers that can't be applied at checkout.
Conditional rewards finally display correctly. Buy-one-get-one and buy X get Y rewards depend on what's in the cart. Previously a partner had no reliable way to work that out, so these were often shown when they didn't apply, or hidden when they did.
The answer matches what checkout will do. A reward this returns is one checkout will accept for the same cart, so what the guest sees is what the guest gets.
Better performance on your ordering experience. Partners previously had to make a separate call for every single reward just to find out what it was worth. That's now one request, so reward lists load faster as a guest edits their cart.
How it works
There's nothing to configure in your Thanx dashboard. The capability is available to any partner or development team building against the Thanx Loyalty API.
Talk to whoever builds your ordering or guest experience, whether that's a partner platform or your own team.
Point them at the qualifying rewards documentation.
They can use it to power an accurate offers list before checkout.
FAQs
Do I need to do anything?
No, unless you have a partner or custom-built experience that shows Thanx rewards. In that case, share this update with your provider so they can make this change on your behalf.
Does this affect Thanx ordering?
No. This is an API capability for partner-built and custom-built experiences. Nothing about Thanx ordering changes.
Does checking rewards redeem them?
No. It's a read-only check. Nothing is redeemed and no points are debited.
Will what a guest sees match checkout?
Yes. It runs the same eligibility logic checkout runs, so a reward it returns is one checkout will accept for that cart.
Does this handle buy-one-get-one rewards?
Yes. Conditional rewards resolve correctly, which wasn't reliably possible before.
