Universal Promo Codes are now live in your dashboard. Create promo codes that work in-store and online, and distribute them to guests whether they’re in your loyalty program or not. Redemption currently supported for Olo and Toast ordering, NCR (Aloha) POS, PAR (Brink) POS, and Genius for Enterprise POS. Support for Deliverect, Toast POS, and Qu POS coming soon!

What is it?

Universal Promo Codes lets you create, distribute, and track promotional codes that redeem across channels — all from your Thanx dashboard. Choose multi-use static codes (like WELCOME10) for broad campaigns, or a pool of single-use codes for controlled, trackable distribution. Link the code to a reward (% off, $ off, free item, free delivery, or BOGO), hand it out however you like — at the register, in digital ordering, by direct mail, through paid media — and any guest can redeem it in store or online, loyalty member or not.

Why it matters

  • One platform, every channel. The same code works at the register and in online ordering, with unified reporting—no need for middleware offer management.

  • Reach guests who aren't loyalty members. Codes are tied to the reward template, not an account, making them great for sending offers to guests that aren’t in your database.

  • Run campaigns you couldn't before. Generate large pools of single-use codes for partnerships and direct-mail drops, each with its own control and attribution.

  • Plug into your marketing stack. Export single-use codes as a CSV for easy upload into external marketing platforms like Klaviyo and Attentive.

  • Single-use codes now available for Toast ordering. For the first time, brands on Toast can run controlled, one-per-guest campaigns and track them individually.

How it works

Create a campaign

  1. In your Thanx dashboard, go to Rewards → Universal Promo Codes.

  2. Choose multi-use static (one code anyone can use until it expires) or single-use (a pool where each code works once — up to 4 million per pool).

  3. Link it to a reward template and set your rules: validity window, location restrictions, and minimum spend.

  4. Once your codes are ready, download a CSV for distribution across your marketing channels.

How to redeem

  • Online: Guests enter the code at checkout in Toast or Olo ordering; Thanx validates it in real time and applies the discount to the subtotal. No loyalty account needed.

  • In-store: A cashier enters the code at the register. See how redemption works across each supported POS by clicking the links below.

FAQs

Do guests need a Thanx loyalty account to use a code?

No, promo codes are account-agnostic. Loyalty members can still earn points on the qualifying portion of the check, but membership isn't required to redeem.

What's the difference between static and single-use codes?

A static code (like WELCOME10) is one code anyone can use until it expires — great for broad campaigns. A single-use code is one of a generated pool, each redeemable once — best for partnerships, direct mail, or anywhere you need to control individual redemption.

What reward types can I attach?

Any reward that takes a discount off the order at checkout: % off, $ off, free item, free delivery, or BOGO. Bonus points, hidden menu items, and access passes aren't eligible.

I'm on Olo — how do I get access?

Email your Olo rep to enable promo codes for your brand. We’ve provided an email template you can use in the dashboard (go to Rewards > Promo Codes). Once Olo turns it on, let your Customer Success Manager that they’ve enabled it for you.

Can I send promo codes inside a Thanx email?

No. Promo codes are built for situations where you don't have the customer's info, like a mailed card, an event handout, or a broad-based email or advertisement. If you already know the customer, issue them a reward instead. For members, a reward ensures an integrated experience, with no hunting through email to find a code. For non-members, issuing a reward naturally sparks interest in your loyalty program and encourages enrollment.
