Open content block links in the device browser
Some web pages don't work inside an app's built-in browser. You can now set a content block link to open in the guest's own browser instead.
What is it?
Content blocks with a URL link, meaning Featured Content, Personalized Text, and Featured Content Carousel items, can now be set to open in the device's external browser rather than the in-app web view. This is for destinations that don't work well inside an app, like a gifting portal, a fundraising page, or a third-party form. You choose the behavior per block.
Why it matters
Pages that used to break now work. Some web experiences, especially ones with their own checkout or sign-in, don't function correctly inside an app's built-in browser. Sending guests to their real browser fixes that.
You decide per block. This is a setting on the individual content block, not an app-wide switch, so your normal in-app links keep behaving the way they do today.
Fewer dead ends on your home screen. If you've avoided promoting a gifting or fundraising page because it didn't work in the app, you can promote it now.
How it works
Go to the content block you want to change. This works on Featured Content, Personalized Text, and Featured Content Carousel items that have a URL link.
Set the link to open in the external browser.
Save and publish. Guests tapping that block will leave the app and land in their device's browser.
Requires app version 62.0.0 or higher
Guests on an older version of your app will still see the link open in the in-app web view. If a meaningful share of your guests haven't updated, plan for both behaviors for a while.
FAQs
Which content blocks support this?
Featured Content, Personalized Text, and Featured Content Carousel items, as long as the block has a URL link.
Is this an app-wide setting?
No. You set it per content block, so your other links keep opening in the app as they do today.
What happens for guests on an older app version?
They'll see the link open in the in-app web view. The external browser behavior needs app version 62.0.0 or higher.
When should I use this?
Use it for web-only destinations that don't work inside an app's built-in browser, such as a gifting portal or a fundraising page.
